How thrifting helps the Earth

Happy Earth Month!

April is Earth Month, if you didn’t know. We’ve been celebrating it since the first Earth Day, April 22, 1970 (during the whole environmental movement).

What does this have to do with thrifting? Everything!

The economical benefits of thrift shopping are obvious, but did you know there are environmental benefits, too?

Thrift shopping reduces waste

While you may get a thrill out of thrifting just by nabbing sweet finds, you should be pumped about reducing waste, too! By buying used items, you are not directly contributing to the fashion industry. You’re also buying clothes that may otherwise just be tossed in the landfill!

Thrift shopping saves energy

When you buy retail, you are contributing to a multi-billion dollar industry that thrives on production and consumption. The amount of water, energy, pollution that goes into a single article of clothing is outrageous. By thrifting for clothes and shoes, you are re-using these vital resources and reducing pollution!

Thrift shopping clears your conscience

Consumption does not equal happiness. Thrift shopping is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint and save money to spend on things you really enjoy.
